Project Name: The (Bowling) Alley at South Shore Family Entertainment Center
Whether it's an interior or exterior project, there's an elegant decorative concrete solution for any new, existing or troubled surface.
This particular project brought excitement to our corner. As soon as we viewed the architectural drawing "floor plan" created by Ron Ellman Associates we knew we'd be creating a fun, colorful & well designed floor that matched perfectly with the overall concept of the Alley at South Shore.
The product used on this project was the the L. M. Scofield Company's LITHOCHROME® Tintura™ Stain in Razz-ma-tazz Red, Evergreen, Wheat Grain and Autumn Honey. You would wonder how this mix of color would work next to each other, but we were excited to see the outcome. Once the floor was prepped appropriately -- meaning washed, sanded as needed, defects and saw cuts filled -- we then start creating the overall design by using painters tape.
One of the most important things we've learned through working with Scofield's LITHOCHROME® Chemstain® Classic and LITHOCHROME Tintura Stain is this: when using painter's tape (blue) to create a design you should make sure there are no bubbles or exposed creases when making a curve or sharp corner. Doing so will help to alleviate the possibility of the concrete stain building up along the side of the tape and running underneath the tape to contaminate the adjacent color.
Once the design was down we had to make the decision of which color to work with first in case of any chance of seepage under the tape. We decided to start with the most brilliant of the 4 colors, Evergreen & Razz-ma-tazz Red. We felt that if the Red & Evergreen penetrated through the tape design; which is always a chance; the concrete would absorb it, so when the lighter colors were placed the darker color would not show as strongly. Another helpful hint that we've learned is if you have a small area that needs touching up, you can use a small hand art sprayer to fix or fill in areas without the worry of over spraying. DO NOT use a paint brush or rag.
The Tintura line of stains is not only very easy to work with, it also has no residue to remove and dries in no time at all. Within 3-4 hours of letting the Tintura dry we were ready to seal without having to come back another day. We applied one coat of the SCOFIELD® Selectseal-S™ polyurethane sealer. We always recommend a urethane sealer for interior projects due to the scratch resistance and long lasting strength. We were able to complete this 1200 sf project in 2 days which made the General Contractor & Owner of the center very happy.
